Frequently Asked Questions
- Who is able to purchase through the Military or Diplomatic Sales programs?
- To qualify you must be stationed or deployed overseas as active duty military, DoD civilian, Reserve or National Guard on active duty, all US Government ID Card holders assigned overseas or a person holding a diplomatic passport.
- What is the advantage of purchasing through the Military or Diplomatic Sales programs?
- These are direct factory programs developed especially for military and diplomatic personnel offering substantial savings over the local market and US MSRP. With a factory direct program, there is no need to haggle over prices as the best price is already negotiated.
- Is it possible to purchase through the Military or Diplomatic Sales programs if I am assigned in the USA?
- In order to qualify, you must be assigned out of your home country. If you are US Military, you must be assigned, deployed or TDY overseas. If you are a NATO member, you must be assigned, deployed or on temporary duty outside of your home country.
- How would I place an order when I am deployed or aboard a ship?
- It is very simple. We assign a consultant to aid you with your selection and car configuration to your needs and wishes. All transactions are handled through email and regular postal systems.
- May I custom order my new car?
- Yes! One of the advantages of this program is to be able to have your car built to your specifications provided the options and packages chosen are offered in the specific country's model program.
- Can I have my car delivered directly to the USA?
- Yes! Our military programs are set up to offer direct delivery to a participating direct delivery dealer in the USA. Please consult your sales representative for complete information.
- Will my car comply with all US Department of Transportation and safety regulations?
- Yes! All cars comply with the current DOT regulations and meet the emission requirements for all 50 states. If you are NATO, all cars will comply with the country of ultimate use.
- Will my car be covered by a factory warranty?
- Jaguar, Land Rover and Volvo cars come with a 4-year/50,000 mile limited warranty for Europe and the USA. European models have 2-year/unlimited mileage warranties. Check with your sales representative for complete details as the manufacturers reserve the right to change warranty coverage.
- Who will perform scheduled maintenance and service for my car while I am in Europe?
- Even though you have a Jaguar, Land Rover or Volvo with US specifications, any factory authorized service facility will be able to maintain your car. If you are assigned near a Capitol Motors location, please contact us for details of the closest service department.
- How will I ship my car home?
- Our special programs for the US Market include shipping from a European port (Bremerhaven) to a participating US dealer at no extra charge. Should you elect to drop your car off at one of the many European drop-off points, there will be a charge for inland transportation from that point to the European port. Contact us for complete details and drop-off points.
- What about insurance during shipping?
- Marine insurance applies from the moment the car has been accepted for shipment by and appointed drop-off agent and expires fifteen days after the arrival to the final destination or at the time of release to the owner. Please consult your shipping documents for deductible amounts.
- What about my tax liabilities?
- US Import duties are 2.5% of the total price of your car's Bill of Sale. U.S. Military and government civilian employees returning from an extended duty assignment (140 days or more) abroad may import a duty-free vehicle. The auto must have been purchased abroad and be in its owner's possession prior to departure. Navy personnel serving aboard a U.S. naval vessel from its U.S. departure / return after an overseas deployment of 120 days or more are entitled to the exemption. These are general rules and may vary according to the circumstance of import. To ensure compliance, refer questions to US Customs prior to import. The Customs website is: http://www.cbp.gov/xp/cgov/trade/basic_trade/importing_car.xml
- State tax liabilities. Fifty states have fifty different tax laws and some have special treatment for returning military members. To ensure you have the correct information, it is wise to contact your state's DMV to obtain the current taxation regulations.
Capitol Motors AG (nor its representatives) is responsible for tax liabilities incurred on automobiles sold to individuals and imported into the USA. It is the sole responsibility of the car's owner to identify the taxation requirements for the vehicles imported.
